Reliance Industries and Nvidia are joining forces to build AI infrastructure in India, announced Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on October 24. During a conversation with RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani, Huang expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, calling it a remarkable opportunity for India, given its large population and vast pool of computer engineers.
“This is an extraordinary time, and I am honored and privileged to partner with you for this,” Huang said to Ambani.
Ambani highlighted India’s impressive digital connectivity infrastructure, ranking just behind the US and China. He also emphasized the rapid growth in compute capacities, stating that by the end of the year, India will have nearly 20 times more than it did a year ago.
Ambani also expressed confidence in Nvidia, saying, “We are counting on Nvidia to deliver top-quality AI infrastructure, much like Jio did in the telecom sector.”
Last September, Reliance and Nvidia committed to developing AI supercomputers in India and large language models tailored to Indian languages. Nvidia also formed a similar partnership with Tata Group later that year.
Ambani praised Nvidia’s GB-200 computing system as cutting-edge technology and acknowledged Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg for making Llama AI open-source, noting that Zuckerberg will be remembered in history for this contribution.
