Exciting news from the renewable energy sector! The Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group has announced a landmark partnership with the Bhutanese government to jointly develop 500 MW of solar and 770 MW of hydropower projects in the country. This represents the largest foreign direct investment by a private company in Bhutan’s green energy space, further solidifying the Himalayan nation’s commitment to sustainability.
In collaboration with Druk Holding and Investments Ltd., the commercial arm of Bhutan’s government, this initiative aims to strengthen green energy infrastructure. The 500 MW solar plant in Gelephu Mindfulness City will be developed in two phases and will eventually become Bhutan’s largest solar project, providing clean energy and contributing to the fight against climate change.
Additionally, the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-1 Hydro Project, designed as a run-of-the-river initiative, will reinforce Bhutan’s energy independence and sustainable growth. This partnership not only focuses on generating green energy but also on exploring innovative technologies to support Bhutan’s ambitious net-zero goals.
To drive these efforts, Reliance Group has launched a new flagship company, Reliance Enterprises, dedicated to promoting investment in Bhutan’s renewable energy sector.
This is a significant step forward in achieving a greener future. What are your thoughts on this major development in the renewable energy landscape?
